2026 — Brand Identity
Mono
Identity for an independent type foundry — a system built to show type clearly, license it simply and launch it loudly.
Overview
Mono is a two-person type foundry releasing careful, workhorse families for editorial and digital use. Their typefaces were respected; their brand was invisible. The brief: an identity with the confidence of a much larger foundry, built to survive specimen pages, trial downloads and conference slides alike.
The answer was restraint — a single-weight wordmark, a strict black-and-paper palette, and one rule: the fonts are always the image.
Approach
The studio designed the identity the way the foundry designs type — from use cases inward. Specimen templates, licensing language in plain words, trial-file labelling, release notes with a voice: every boring corner of a foundry's output was treated as a brand surface. Launch direction covered the release campaign for their flagship grotesque, from teaser specimens to the documentation site.
Nothing in the system competes with the product. The brand holds the frame; the typefaces fill it.
